International Federation of Icelandic Horse Associations (FEIF)
The Icelandic horse is a sturdy horse breed from the cold and harsh Iceland, originally originating from horses that the vikings brought to the island. These clever and fast learning ponies are known for a good and rectangular body shape with short, strong legs with dry joints. Their well muscled neck is connected to a long back with strong shoulders and hindquarters. Icelandics are known to be able to carry adults just as good as kids and stay hard working and eager throughout being worked. They are level headed and very reliable, suited for all kind of difficult work in and outside the arena. Icelandics are very calm and social, but also have a very good immune system. As a gaited breed, they can be able to perform Tölt and Flying Pace, however some horses don't have this ability.
